Seaman John Alfred Leadsome.

Hi all,

I've been given a photo by my mum of my gr grandfather John Alfred Leadsome.

He is wearing some form of naval uniform on a ship. I don't know if the uniform is merchant navy or royal navy. The photo shows he has 2 bands around the sleeve at the bottom. So does anyone know what rank this would be ?

Hello Deryn.  You sure John Alfred is not a fireman?  His father Edward was a Ship Steward.  I will pm you with some details.  Mind you, John Alfred could have been in the 1st World War.  You can always post your picture on the Photos Forum for verification.

Two gold bands, the top one with a loop in it, could be a Lieutenant.

I think it is John Alfred. Yes I have seen he was a fireman in 1911. Perhaps 1st world war then ?

I'm thinking it could be merchant navy as the bands are straight with no loops !
