Ennis Marriage at St Andrews, Dublin
« on: Monday 28 February 11 17:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have located a marriage on Irish Genealogy and think it could be my Ancestor but would like to know if Joannem as a first name could mean John and Mariam = Mary??

Here is the record:- http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/4b59af1367837

Would this record give John's occupation at the time?  I know he is living in UK from 1841 onwards and is a Brushmaker.

Thanks for any help  :D

Details such as first names are often recorded in Latin in RC registers - so John and Mary

RC records dont include father's occupation.

I would say that record is a complete transcription.

The images of the register will hopefully be added at some stage allowing you to view the full page.

Is it not possible whilst I am in Dublin to view this record somewhere?  Would they be held in one of the Libraries in Dublin?

Thanks

RC films are in the National Library, Kildare St.

Records for St. Andrew are on a series of films - marriages between 1810 to 1838 are on film reference Pos.6609.

Thanks Shane

Can you just go to the library and view the film or do you have to book a reader etc??

Never been to National Library before, what is the set up??

Thanks

I haven't visited for a few months, but last time I was there you didn't need to book, but it is a good idea to turn up early. I think they open at 9:30.

All you need is what's called a newspaper pass, which you pick up at reception. You leave you bags, coat, phone etc in a locker room, find a free machine in the RC research room (up the stairs to the right), and note the desk number. Then go upstairs to the main library room and order the film giving the film reference and your desk number.

The film will be delivered to you at your desk, when its ready.

they are open Mon-Fri and for a while on Saturday morning.

Early records dont contain much details, so it's quite likely that all you will see on that marriage record are the details mentioned on IrishGenealogy.

For full list of the St. Andrew's films in the NLI see : www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx
