Leicestershire Record Office
« on: Monday 28 February 11 13:24 GMT (UK) »
I am just wondering what is the best way to obtain records from here if you can't visit in person.  I am in Oz so it makes it a bit difficult.  When doing a google search on a surname of interest, an entry popped up on the Records Office site.  It was for the court sessions at Michaelmas 1877.  I am pretty sure it's my rellie as I saw a newspaper archive recently where it said he was to appear before the sessions on a charge of robbery.  He was from London, so I don't know how he ended up there, but thats what the newspaper said.

Thanks

Greeting’s & Welcome to the Leicestershire Boards ……

I should try contacting the Records Office using the link below……..

e-mail :-      recordoffice@leics.gov.uk

They could do a search for you and transcribe the details for you
And then transfer them on to you  via e-mail. ….

I’m not too sure if there would be a charge involved. …..

I go to the Records Office on a weekly bases and I’m willing to do other look ups on your behalf………

MIKE. …….

Thanks Mike.
I will email and see what they say.  They might have a minimum charge and its only this one record I want, so hopefully it won't be too much, provided they can do it for me.

Greeting’s Again ……

I know that service is available when they transcribe details of events which come under the “ 100 Year Closure Act.”

Hi Mike
I have emailed so will see what they say.  The event occurred in 1877 so the hundred years are well and truly up.

The records office got back to me and it added up to a bit in the end, by the time they had a ten pound research fee, cost of copies, airmail postage, credit card fee etc.  If you are able to still do the lookup Mike, I would really appreciate it.  I will send a personal message with the details.
Thanks
