Kidd Family
« on: Monday 28 February 11 13:16 GMT (UK) »
This is my first time posting on this board.  I am researching from Canada looking for information regarding my Kidd family.

Father-George Kidd b. county Down 1865
Mother-Margaret b county Armagh 1865
children
Sarah b county Antrim 1889
Georgina b county Antrim 1890
Isaac b county Louth 1892
Margaret b county Louth 1894
Agnes b county Louth 1896
Louisa b county Louth 1900

I know for sure that Georgina, Margaret and Louisa came to Canada from about 1919-1923.  That is all I know regarding my Kidd family.

I hope to hear from anyone that can help me.
Christine.

Yes Shane thank you.  I had found that yesterday but that is where everything ends.  Just looking to see if anyone out there had any connection to my Kidd family.

1901 Census - Kidd family, Hand Street, Drogheda

Possible birth for one of the children from the BMD Index :

 Name: Isaac Kidd
 Registration district: Drogheda
 Event type: Birth
 Quarter and year: Jul-Sep 1892
 Volume : 3 / Page : 381

A birth cert would give you more details such as Margaret's maiden name.

Christine.
1911 census shows George and margaret have been married for 23 years. I have found the marriage of a George Kidd to Margaret Ferris in Berry Street Presbyterian Church, Shankill, Belfast on 28 May 1888. Fathers were Robert Kidd and James Ferris.

I was wondering if it was common for a birth to be registered a couple years after the actual birth.  I found a Mary Louisa but it shows she was born in 1902 but she shows up on the 1901 census.

I'm not certain, but I think that a birth was supposed to be registered within something like 90 days.  Other possibilities are that the Louisa listed on the census may not have been registered, or even died soon after and a later child was given the same name. I've seen this in RC families.. not sure if it was common in Presbyterian families  (just seen that Louisa also appears on the 1911 census as age 10.. so this doesn't seem likely)

Kidd is not that common a surname, so it might be worth following up the 1902 cert anyway..
