I am searching for my GG Grandfather Robert BLACK who arrived in Moreton Bay in Queensland AUST, aboard ship ‘Alfred’ in 1858. He married Elizabeth SYME/SIME/SIM in Brisbane on
9/7/1859. She was born on 30/3/1942 (as SYME) at Aberdour Scotland and arrived in Moreton Bay with her family aboard ship ‘Irene’ in 1858. They had six children viz.,
Elizabeth b. 17/10/1860 Brisbane QLD d. 6/1/1862 Brisbane
James b. 20/8/1862 Brisbane d. 18/8/1944 Cairns QLD
Janet b. 12/10/1864 marr.?? d.??
Alexander b. 8/10/1866 Dundathu QLD d. 6/4/1916 Cairns (my Great Grandfather)
Robert b. 17/2/1871 d. 7/11/1919 Charters Towers QLD
William George b. 14/12/1876 marr. ?? d.??
Elizabeth passed away on 8/1/1877 at Dundathu near Maryborough QLD, after the birth of William George. Robert presumably raised his children with the assistance of his late wife’s family who were sawmillers. He worked with Elizabeth’s uncle William SYME/SIME/SIM and his partner William PETTIGREW at their Dundathu sawmill, which had a checkered existence surviving fires and floods, eventually succumbing in 1893 during the great flood. William SIM died in Robert BLACK’s arms after a logging accident at Tin Can Bay QLD in 1873 and Robert built a 35-foot steamboat from hoop pine, which was plentiful, and named it ‘Elizabeth’ in 1879.
After that, I have found no evidence of Robert or his children Janet and William George.
I’d love to hear from any descendants of any of the above family or any one who can help knock down the wall.
