Boer War 1902
« on: Sunday 27 February 11 02:41 GMT (UK) »
I have  a kings medal belonging to a relative William Edward Smith. The number is a bit hard to read but appears to be 5929 and rank could be Colour sarg .  He was born at Breewood Shifnal Shropshire in Oct 1880 and belonged to the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry. He did not seem to be wounded and certainly survived as he married and came to Australia after 1902. I think he may also have been in India before 1902 .  If any one can advise me on how to get his military history I would be very thankful.

there is a Smith EW, Private Natal Mounted Infantary
His name is on the Town Hall Memorial CTV Durban South Africa.

I am not sure how accurate the information is as it cites he died at an unknown location in 2009

There is a record of a William Smith Born St Chads Shrewsbury, stated age 20 years 3 months occupation Groom enlisted Shropshre LI. Dated 27th Feb q899.

He served just under 2 years was posted abroad but could not make out were he went but on eo the the 6 documents includes a statement "Returning to England" He was discharged as Unfit.

His service number on Attestation was 5970 NA ref. is WO97/3912/88.

There are 6 images available on that soldier.

yep  that is the other one lol.
Not him since I asked I have found him. with much digging, his number is as per the medal.
He returned to England and went to the colours authority Pembroke Dock ?not sure what that means but it seems the 2nd battalion? of the KSLI was there, doing? no idea
Thanks for the answer, I still have some questions on him. As these things do , sometime they will come out.
