I think he was born in Scotland but haven't been able to find anything on ScotlandsPeople to date, his son, James Barr, moved to Durham so I just wondered if Robert moved the whole family to Durham first.

Hi,

When & where was James born? It is always a great help if you can put down all the info you may have to make things a little easier when searching.

So James Barr was born 1867 in Ayrshire Scotland  and his father was Robert.

Although James married in Durham - it was 38yrs later so it's more likely that the family were in Scotland in 1871

I found an 1881 Census with a James Barr living in Lancashire as a grandson to Susan Henney but cannot be sure if this is him.  I've not been able to find James Barr in ScotlandsPeople in 1891 or 1901.
