Henry Lowe
« on: Saturday 26 February 11 20:04 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find either the baptism or marriage of Henry Lowe born c1789 in Ashton le Willow thus I would hopefully establish his parents. I have checked all the obvious parish records ie Winwick and Ashton in Makerfield. Post 1841 the family are in the Haskayne/Halsall area.

He married "Ann" and the only likely marriage match I can find is 21 Nov 1814 All Saints, Wigan, but I understand that the record does not show Henry's parents.

Any other ideas on how I can establish his parents would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I don't think there was such a place as Ashton Le Willow although it's shown as his birthplace on the 1851 census

Newton Le Willows or Ashton in Makerfield are the likeliest

Given his birthyear - any marriage would be before Civil Registration (1837) so would not show his fathers name

1851 shows daughter Helen 22 b Downholland and 1841 shows her as Ellen aged 11.  Wife is Ann but see below

As the family were in the Ormskirk/Halsall area in 1841 - this is a possible for Ellen from the IGI but it is a submitted entry

ELLEN LOW  Christening:  30 AUG 1829   Aughton By Ormskirk, Lancashire
Father:  HENRY LOW   Mother:  NANCY

Hi

Wiki has it as an old name for Newton le Willows,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashton-in-Makerfield

Would Liverpool be too far out?

Lancashire OPC has a couple pf entries which would fit - they could have lived with her parents if they were in Liverpool.

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html

Worth a thought?

Best wishes :)

PS

Entries are:

Henry son of Henry Lowe and Mary born 9 Sep 2789 and baptised 20 Sep 1789,  Abode Preston St, occupation blacksmith.  St Peter, Liverpool.

Also a marriage, at Winwick, 3 July 1788,

Henry Lowe and Mary Leyland, both this Parish, by Banns.

Witness Robert Cross and Michael Ridyard.

Too far flung??

The next one's at Black Rod.

Too far out?  27 Feb 1791 1st child of Edward and Ellen (F Hart) of Haigh.

There are a couple for unmarried mothers a couple of years later, 1794 at Upholland and Burtonwood.  Older child?  Also anolther to Henry and Mary 16 Mar 1794 at St Paul Independent, Wigan - 4th child, 2nd son.

Worth a play on the site?
