Thank you for the quick replies,

Since there are people in the knowledge my grandfather J.W. Smaje received many awards during his time for help in the community in Liverpool.

The Citizen of the Year award i believe it was called, he was awarded this on several occasions but where can i get the info on when and how many times?

Yet again thank you for your input.

As for the mad on rugby guy....he is my uncle!...i think...
Liverpool - Doyle / Smaje
Holland - Smaje

I would ask the mad rugby guy to look in the news paper archives for you and also in any news papers of the dates you are talking about.

Date died: 16 August 1917

Son of David Smaje who was born 1863 Liverpool but living in St Helens in 1901

I'm wondering about this family in 1851 they are indexed as Sanaje but they have the same names in the family including Barnett

HO 107 1545 486 9 Whitechapel

David N Sanaje 45 commission agent in (can't read)
Rosa wife 44
Sarah 21
Jane 17
Julia 17
Joseph 14
herman 15
Eleanor
Catherine 7
Barnett 3 he was born Spitalfields everyone else Holland

David Nathan Smaje is in the probate index for 1879 Barnett his executor (I latered this this afternoon realised I had spelt it wrong)

Rosa and the children arrived 6 Sept 1844 at Sunderland from Amsterdam on the ship henrietta. They are on the alien arrivals and have the Dutch spelling of their name.

David Smaje 55 head mar temperance cordial maker born Holland
Rosetta Smaje 54 wife mar born Holland
Eleazar Smaje 19 son born Holland
Catherine Smaje 17 dau born Holland
Barnett Smaje 13 son born London
Samuel Kleirs 53 visitor born Holland

The family Gibel posted who are Whitechapel in 1851 look like the same family (minus the older children) who are in Sussex Street, Toxteth Park in 1861.

Hi

My great grandmothers sister called Mary Mangan born 1863 in Liverpool, married David Smaje.  On the 1881 census he is down as living with her and his in laws in Mill Street Liverpool 8.  His father was Joseph Smaje and believe his family came from Holland and was cordial makers.  His father arrived in Sunderland in 1844.  There is a fast tree on An......, including mine, with a photo of him.

Best wishes
