Churchyard visits - question

We are coming from Canada to the UK in May and I will have a day available to spend in Lincolnshire to do a bit of family history research.  My family ( Lupton, Cook, Gresham, Jubb etc ) lived in Martin, Dunston, Nocton, Timberland area  from the late 1800's and well  back into the 1700's.     I hope to visit the churchyards in each of these towns, hopefully finding ancestors gravesites.   I would like to have spent a day in Lincoln at the archives but just can't fit it in.   

So my question is this - do churches have any records available ( births, marriages, deaths etc )  for the public to view ?

An e-mail to Lincs Archives ought to be able to tell you whether the newer registers are held at the churches.

I suggest you find the position of the churches in the various villages at www.streetmap.co uk then look at Google maps ... for instance, Timberland here http://tinyurl.com/6yydm9g  See how few of the gravestones still remain.

Remember that most people were AgLabs or their families and could have afforded no gravestone.  Remember too that limestone does not weather very well and that old stones will probably be illegible

I would check with Lincolnshire Archives website http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/residents/archives/collections/archive-collections/ecclesiastical/parish-registers-and-bishops-transcripts-deposited-at-lincolnshire-archives/ to see what parish records they have and the years they cover for the parishes you wish to visit. This will give you a rough guide as to what the churches will currently have - usually the period after the latest years given on the Archives website.

Not all churches, especially in rural areas, are open all the time. I have found it very helpful if you contact the churchwardens before a visit. You should be able to find contact details at http://www.lincoln.anglican.org/search_parishes.php

Hello Galiano.If it`s of any interest to you I have the Jubb family in my Bell family tree.Although my Jubbs come from the next county Nottinghamshire it is only about 25 miles from the nocton area of Lincs.Here they are anyway I hope they help.William Bell b 25th Nov 1667? in Clarborough,married Elizabeth Jubb b 1678 at Clarborough on the 23rd Dec 1707 at Clarborough,she died 5th April 1728.
Her family were William Jubb and Margaret Stow.Sorry no birth dates,but they were married the 30th Nov 1676 at North Wheatley,Notts.I`ve not researched anymore with this family yet.They may not be any relation,but who knows you may come accross them in the future.All the best with your holiday and research in May.
