Woolworths in Australia - well, where I live, so I presume all over - are collecting at the checkouts for the NZ earthquake appeal via the Salvation Army.  There's a notice on the back of the cash register which hits you in the eye while you wait for your things to go through.
Your donation is added on to your bill, whatever amount you nominate.
They even give you a separate little tax invoice receipt for taxation purposes.
I hope lots of people see it and act on it

Hi there!

I do not know how many of you check the Geonet site, but they seem to be adding additional features on a fairly regular basis. This is the latest   http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/quakes/recent_quakes.html  If you click on  Canterbury Quakes roundel at the top of the page. there are all sorts of things there!

Thinking of you all

I realise I am up here in the non shaky part of New Zealand, but let's be gentle to one another.  I saw an interview with a counsellor who was in the CTV building in the quake and he said that the chemical that is released into the brain to cope with such a big stressful event is wearing off and people are experiencing all kinds of effect from that.  So maybe we can be extra kind to one another. We don't need to lessen anyone else's suffering to express our own. I feel for all of you down there - from the minor damage to the loss of lives this has had a big impact on you all and indeed on the whole country.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

... :( so sad Suzy .... and it is very traumatic for the rescue crews even though it is part of their 'job' some images stay with them forever and they have their different ways of dealing with it. Know my husband as a fire officer used to say, after attending anything horrific, that the crew had a really tough time and different reactions.... and he often didn't relate the full story to me either! We have been getting quite a few personal accounts of rescue crew members, one in particular is in a bit of hot water for saying what he did publicly... on a forum, and it went to media.

... not sure if it's been mentioned already ... MY City of Ruins by Bruce Springsteen ... is played at the end of the TV1 coverage regularly.

... Hiya to Newbe too, glad you were able to make a break away .. so to speak  :) mare
