She's in a nursing home in Korori..........   fingers crossed she's OK.

Wellington is on known fault lines so they were probably better prepared with things bolted to walls at the nursing home... but I'll cross my fingers for her, just in case  :)

That's from the BBC and that had this to add:

There were several times when the objects could have been placed inside the plinth - when Godley's statue was erected in 1867, moved in 1918, or returned to its original site in 1933, reported The Press.
The fallen statue of John Robert Godley in Cathedral Square, Christchurch, on Tuesday The items were found in the large plinth of the statue of Christchurch founder John Robert Godley

Mayor Parker suggested the capsules could contain documents which gave an insight into the "vision" of the settlers.

"It seems almost providential that they have come to light now to provide the inspiration we need in this most difficult time," he was quoted as saying.

... There are also reports that a third mysterious item has been found in the ruins of the cathedral - this time in the cross of the spire, which was toppled by the quake - but these remain unconfirmed.

Curiouser and curiouser  ;)

Reporting in from Wellington   ....

It was a short, sharp, jolt of about 10 seconds duration ... the "jolty" ones are always the most scary.   ::)

Listening in to radio talkback, there are no reports of damage.   :)

It's a blustery old night here in the Capital and the upper storey of our home always creaks, groans, and shudders in such conditions so you sort of get used to a bit of "rock 'n roll".   But just as that jolt struck, the wind rather spookily stopped ... and there was a strange silence.   Really quite creepy.

My thoughts and prayers though, are still very much with the incredibly brave folk of Christchurch.   :-*

Just to reassure you - I live in Wellington area and didn't notice the earthquake tonight! I usually always feel the slightest little tremor!   I live about 20k North of Wellington City.   And being a life time resident of Wellington I'm extra sensitive and petrified of them too!

Just took this info from the Geonet site  -   www.geonet.org.nz    -   interesting  but not for would be immigrants to look at though ;D ;D

Reference Number: 3472164
NZDT: Tue, Mar 1 2011 10:07 pm
Magnitude: 4.5
Depth: 40 km
Details: 20 km north-west of Wellington

Tephra, as you probably know, Karori is a suburb of Wellington City, so your Aunt is even further away from the earthquake than I am and I'm sure she will be fine. .

If you are still online and would like to PM me with the name of the Rest Home, her name, and your name,  I will be more happy to call them right now for you.   Night staff will be on duty, and I'm sure it will be OK to ring now and I'd like to be able to put your mind at rest - straight from the horse's mouth!

Jeanne :) Modified at 1.10am to add  - "see you've gone offline now, but still PM me and I'll check it out in the morning for you."

LOL Sylvia - I did wonder about some of those ingredients -had to google some of those strange unknown ones - found out that one of them was an East Indian Curry and another some kind of fungus - don't like the sound of those to settle my upset tummy!! ::) Bit rough on the old digestive system I would think  ;D ;D

:( I'm sitting here feeling really guilty! I was lying in bed - couldn't sleep for worrying about the Wellington earthquake that I didn't even feel, (no damage reported), and waiting for the next one! Now I've got up and I'm thinking about the people of Christchurch who have had 8 aftershocks today (Tuesday) ranging in magnitude from 3.1 - 4.6.  The 4.6 was at 10.42pm, centred in Lyttelton again, and just 35 minutes after the Wellington one.  What right have I got to be fretting about this little jolt in Wellington - not that they're unheard of up here!!  But it didn't do anything, did it!!

I can still hardly comprehend that all this is what these amazing incredible people of Christchurch and the Rescue workers & teams etc who are all working so hard, are living with day after day after day! And in such difficult conditions of loss and deprivation!!

I just don't know how to put into words the admiration and compassion that I continue to feel for every single one of them right now!  Like a lot of other people I guess, I'm wishing and hoping for some respite and peace, love, miracles and magic wands for them all.  Stay Safe Christchurch!

All part of everyday life since September 4th Jaybelnz.  We never jump to anything under "4.5"  and most are 2-6km deep which are very close.  Even the ones that wake us at night, we just stay in bed and ride it out.  Probably one of the safe places to be.

If Wellington ever had one, and you are in the city, never run out where a wall can come down on top of you.  I know it is human nature to run, but take cover under something strong.
As I said to my children it is not the earthquake that kills you it is the falling buildings.

Apple cider vinegar, yes I have heard that is so good for a number of things.  But I found using fresh sage out of the garden and honey, pour hot water over and let rest for 10 minutes.  Use as a mouth wash or you can drink it for nerves.  Ulcers much better, plus taking multi v's which have zinc in it.
