They showed the time capsule on t.v, all intact apart from the glass bottle with the parchment paper, a little water damage, but looks as if it is readable.  Small miracles bring a smile to one's face.

I'm fascinated by the time capsules in the plinth....anyone around here able to find out when the plinth was erected?  Perhaps for an anniversary of the founding of Christchurch?  Who paid for it?  ie who is likely to have written the notes?  Can the age of the solder-sealed metal container be determined from historic information about the use of such elements?  Another magical mystery in the making?!  ;)

The statue's history http://christchurchcitylibraries.com/Heritage/Photos/disc8/IMG0022.asp

I wonder if the metal one is from 1867 and the glass when it was re-situated in 1933?

Glad to hear Newbie is ok

Yes, the time capsule is a real treat and a nice distraction from all the other things to think about... for a while.

I heard the time capsule was put there in 1867.  Yes it is a real treat, So looking forward to see what names are in there or what is written.

Glad Newbe is up and running again.  I see there were a few cracks in the road out her way, which a train container would fit nicely into. :o

So hot here today, which will stir up a lot of dust.  Plus the smell of sewage is coming over the city.  We noticed this morning.
