But like you say its the weather
and its a long trip over I can tell you
but a lovely country
Or is it some of my folks were born there and its in my genes

We had a friend called today and said someone beside her was in New Zealand last year for a holiday and they are packing up to go out to live there don't know where and we said had we been 10 years younger we would have been away as well

Suzy I see you have Lyalls in your family
My husbands grandmother was a Lyall of Brecin its not far from Dundee

So glad you're able to keep us "up to speed" on the situation over there - I've virtually given up watching the news reports here as what we're hearing/seeing is more sporadic now and I think they're straying into the sensationalist realm a lot of the time (although not as badly as they could have done).

Just curious, as we used to have friends there (now moved to Wellington), ... any idea how things are in Rolleston?  They had a lovely big house there ... 't'would be sad to think it was damaged, it had been in the family for years.
I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson

Rolleston was one of the places that was hit constantly by after shocks from the September quake.  Now it is Lyttelton and Akaroa's turn.

Very hot here today, it has it's good points and bad.  Not long before things start to get cooler, and when it does we will all know about it.

Aspin, yes my Lyall clan came from Dundee, William Lyall married Mary Milne in 1850 Jamesfield by Abernethy.  They were one of the first settlers in Pigeon Bay (not far from Lyttelton) They farmed a very large property until the early 1900's.

We also have very strong links with Rangiora, my Watkins and Pentecost families were one of the first settlers in this area.  So you can understand why I am so protective of Christchurch.

Radio and T.V have been switched off again today.  Not good for children to watch, plus they need to have a normal day as possible.

... apologies for putting my spoke in yet again! ... hope those strong winds they've been forecasting don't eventuate, coping with the windblown dust problem an added burden!

... last weekend, as on other years, we attended the Art Deco weekend in Napier organised annually to celebrate the rebirth of the city after the earthquake of 1931 ... 80 years anniversary. Had me thinking  ::) ...if they carry out the positive thinking and rebuild a new city centre ( away from the current CBD and further inland has been mooted ) what the current style of architecture would be called ..... not important in the greater scheme of things I know! ......

A great fear of tilt a slab concrete buildings might happen (Tilt City).  Lets hope there are architect's out there who have a creative flair.
No good moving the city centre, all of New Zealand sits on a fault line.  Now the liquefaction has happened it makes the ground solid.    There are machines that can shake lose soil to make hard before building on. This was used in Pegasus which is sitting pretty at the moment.

... that liquefaction is quite amazing, it has certainly caused a huge cleanup for the same suburbs that copped it last time as well  :( ... I'd never really heard of it prior to the September earthquake and want to keep calling it liquification, as I did last thread and corrected myself !
