Hi Snaptoo and all,

Missed your note in my quick checks of the forum. I am happy for you to forward my remarks. Please remember, they are of one who has been through all the shocks since the big one yet my family is  unscathed apart from the loss of kitchen ware and a window in the big one.  Some friends have lost everything.  Do look at Diana's blog (above), we go back to our student days and she was alone for those few minutes on last Tuesday before her helpers arrived 10 mins later.

The rats are getter rattier. There were two hoax cell-phone calls set up from websites telling the police that the senders were trapped under rubble. I only wish they were and that they could be left there.

Cheers

Just had to get out in the community today.  Took a couple of photo's in my area.
People are still in shock, very pale people including those who have darker complexions.  Not much chatter among people not like last time.
Only way to describe how we feel..like a boxer being knocked down and having to keep getting up, only to be knocked down again.

First photo is of the Baptist church on Harewood Road
Second photo is only just a few doors down from the church on the corner of Harewood Road and Papanui Road, this was damaged in the first quake, but was holding on for it's 100th Birthday this year, now a pile of rubble

Suzy
Sucking a potassium chloride tablet helps with mouth ulcers.  Horrible taste though!
Also, make sure your bodily functions at the other end are regular, as this is often a cause of mouth ulcers, if you get 'stuffed up'

Suzy, Just another idea for you - I have to take prescribed Folic Acid tablets to prevent mouth ulcers - the ulcers being a side effect of one of the drugs that I take for Rheumatoid Arthritis - the drug affects my liver. As one of the other posters said - immune system stuff!

Also, just very relieved, managed to finally make contact with my friend in Christchurch. She and her husband OK, and house OK, Went out to Temuka yesterday to her son, who is part of the Search team with the Fire Service. She's very shaken up of course.  She and a friend were in town at the Casino for lunch on the day, and on the way down after lunch stopped to play the pokies.  The friend was winning and my friend was losing, so she said it didn't really matter than the winnings just "flew away somewhere"!  ;D  She was able to joke about it, so that was good!

They got out OK, but had to walk home to Avonside - took her about three hours. Her car is still buried in the basement, but she's sooo thankful that she and her family are OK, she doesn't really care about the car!

Anyway, good that you getting out and about, and I guess your "feeling like a boxer" describes it pretty well!  Take Care :)

I know how my poor mother felt now, she also had extremely bad arthritis and suffered with mouth and throat ulcers.  lost so much weight for not being able to eat.  It just brings it all home and a better understanding of others who suffer from these things.

4677 aftershocks since September 4th, no wonder we are still standing :o

Christchurch has put on a great pre - Autumn day, and lets hope that gives people a little bit more strength to carry on.

Have not bothered with T.V or radio today, just need to have a rest from the media, So sorry can not up date anyone on what is going on out there.

:) You're a real trooper Suzy!!  I'm pleased that you're able to take a step back and a break from the media, on this lovely day - (it's great in Wellington today too).   Sure that will give you some space to just "be", if you know what I mean

.  I haven't turned any TV or radio on today either, but like you, doesn't mean I don't care!  Had a couple of quick peeps into Stuff, I can take things at my own pace there!  And I had a potter in the garden!  You take care and take it easy!
