As this comes from the bbc in UK Elizabeth it would surely be true.
It says it is from a Japanese satellite, not from someone 'high up in Lyttleton'

I only got the picture sent to me from the North Island of New Zealand and someone else kindly put in the site and deleted the picture

Just a quick note.

BBC news on-line indeed shows the radar image from Japanese satellite but the photo was taken by a named person.

I was led to believe that the shot of Christchurch was from a live webcam up in the Port Hills overooking Christchurch, as at one time on the news it was shown as a video recorded at the time the quake struck!

But I could be wrong.

Last nights news had Jack Tane standing in the same spot on the Port Hills were the photo was taken.
The satelite ones were the rainbow looking shot that you would have seen.

 :) Don't worry about it! You did nothing wrong!   A photo is a photo is a photo. Except for some media photos -  I was more concerned for the families re some of the intrusive personal graphic images posted by the news media!
