Hi KHP
2 hours to get to school?  I question this.  Unless they were private schooling or came from out of town like Rangiora.
Takes about 4 minutes for my daughter to walk to school and 5 minutes for my son to scooter to his.  If people sent their children to local schools it makes life much easier.

Child free today, daughter has gone to friends place, and son had blown his gasket (pre teen) so hubby came and took him to work before I killed the little beggar.
Anyone would like to take a 12 year old boy on for the next 10 years?

Hi Suzy,

I am only going by what is quoted in the local rag.  One attended Burnside School and the other Christchurch Boys School. Quote "They would usually spend at least 2 hours a day taking four buses to and from school" Quote.  Didn't state where they lived.   The kids were glad they only had one lunch line to deal with instead as opposed to 28.  It took the boy 2 hours to walk home on the day of the Earthquake.

Cheers

Burnside is a big school, over 2000 students.  I hated my time there many moons ago.

Just got off the phone to my dear Aunt who lives in one of the worst hit areas.  She is in her mid eighties, The area just got some water put back on yesterday, so she was busy washing sheets before it gets cut off again.
She also said the food parcels were coming to her door, which she has shared with her son who is terminal with cancer.

She was saying how a group of men came to her son's place and painted the outside of the house in one weekend (this is after the first quake)  so nice to hear of community spirit in such a way.

Her son has been trying to fix things around her place, even being very weak and tired himself, he is still making sure his mother is alright.  The other part of the family have also stepped in to help.

I have offered any help that is needed, if roads are open to get there, I will get there.

We are now in recovery mode and not rescue.  100 of the dead are from different countries.

Keep up the good thoughts Suzy
I always enjoy the practical way you are going about things
and it does help having such a cute little dog under your name :)

Do you see many animals wandering the streets? or are they all in hiding

Bye
Althea

There is a dog that has been barking non stop all day today.  It is driving me silly, my nerves are shot as it is.  Have not seen any pets wondering around, but cats are the experts on hiding, our cat took off for a number of hours, came back with his tummy rubbled

Had a aftershock before, and my heart leaped out, I have been quite sensitive towards every little rattle the last couple of days.  I am sure many people are the same.  Something I never do, a little Baileys in milk, helped a little.

Just been speaking to a friend who is a nurse at ChCh hospital.  A number of nurses have handed in their job, the building is unnerving, so to think if you go in there with heart problems, you maybe worse off.

I have been trying to talk to as many people as possible, it is best to unload your thoughts and share with others.

Apparently a seagull was found in the rubble of the cathedral.  It had trouble drinking, not sure what happened to it.

I have been busy looking for a holiday home down South for 18-22 March, do you think anything is available?  Plus the prices range from $150 up per night.  I think most of Christchurch is heading out of town that weekend.

Timaru has grown by 20%, this may be the new Christchurch ;D
