Trying to find "St Joseph's church, Miltown;" Daly/Farragher
« on: Friday 25 February 11 20:04 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any information regarding the ancestry of Patrick Joseph Daley (1880-1918). His parents were John Daly and Bridget Faragher. Patrick was baptized in "St. Joseph's church in Miltown" on Oct 28, 1880. His sponsors were Micheal Greany and Mary Faragher.

He later left for America in 1900, and died in 1918 in Massachusetts.

I am stuck, since there seems to be several Miltown/Milltowns in Ireland. I found two (so far?) that have a St.Joseph's church --County Galway, and County Clare (Miltwon Malbay?)-- but have not been to reach anyone at either place.

Anyone know if there might be another St Joseph's/Miltown in another county?
Anyone have access to Miltown Malbay information that might tie into this?

Another forum member from another site pointed out to me that there was a record on familysearch.org that a Patrick Daly born to a John Daly and Bridget Daly Farragher, November 9, 1880, in Banaher. Perhaps the translation of the birth date of the original record could have been incorrectly read, since the baptismal letter is original, and clearly states October....

or could it be that common of an occurrence of another Patrick being born near the same time frame?

If it is the same Patrick, would it make sense to be born in Banaher (County Offaly?) and be baptized in a "Miltown"?

Any info is appreciated- thanks!

Steve

I presume this is the birth you are referring to :

 Name: Patrick Daly
 Birth date: 09 Nov 1880
 Birthplace: Banaher
 Father's name: John Daly
 Mother's name: Bridget Farragher

It's included in the extracted records on familysearch. The placenames in these kinds of records are usually superintendents districts. There is a sub-district of this name (as Banagher) as part the registration district of Birr (old name Parsonstown), in Co. Offaly. There is also a townland of Milltown in this superintendents district and this is located in the civil parish of Reynagh.

The date you have for baptism conflicts with this record - but if you have
independent evidence of his parents names the it's probably worth trying to order a birth cert for this record to see the extra details. I dont see a good match for this birth in the BMD Index - there is a Patrick Daly registered in the district in the spring of that year, but there looks to be a matching death for him.

I think i actually found it. There is a Banagher right next to a Miltown in County Galway, Doonbally DED, Liskeevy Parish). the names on the 1901 census records match up with Patrick's parents, and there is a Greany family right next to him. A Michael Greany was a sponsor at his baptism.

I'm going to dig into this one. This might be him. I believe there is a St. Joseph church in this Milltown as well.

posting on the County Galway thread also...
