« on: Friday 25 February 11 15:07 GMT (UK) »
My father didn't pass his medical in WW2 his mum told me he was grade 3  I would like to know what that means , he was a builders labourer and was sent to kettering to help build an areo drome for US airmen , as i never knew him to see a doctor and he lived till he was 87 I wonder what was wrong with him.
Thanks

The army wouldn't take anyone who was medically unfit for active service, a reasonably logical position, but they also had some quirky opinions as to what was unacceptable - so it may well have been the case that your father was fit enough for civilian type labour, but had some condition, e.g. flat feet, which would prevent him from serving as a front line soldier but allow him to serve in a construction battalion.
