COMPLETED - Marriage register - father's or groom's occupation?

Hello

This image of part of the marriage register (showing the marriage of my ancestors Thomas DELAHAY to Sarah WILSON at Rosemary Street Church, Belfast on 13th July 1832) has an unexpected entry in the 'Father' column. Instead of the name of Thomas DELAHAY's father, it gives an occupation "( CLERK" and then below that "23RD. R. FUS.")  Could this be a reference to the groom's occupation even though it is in the 'Father' column, or could it be a reference to the father's occupation? Has anyone seen this type of entry before?

(Thomas DELAHAY's father was called John DELAHAY. Thomas was born in Hereford, England, so it is interesting to me that he should get married in Belfast. )

Also, could anyone tell me where I might find more info about "23RD. R. FUS."

Thanks, meara.  Perhaps he was a clerk in the Royal Fusiliers in England and visited Ireland for the marriage?

Thanks, Hackstaple. I looked at the link and it states that Capt. William St. Leger Alcock from 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers were stationed in Naas. Can I infer from that there would be many men stationed there, or would it be just him? Sorry if that sounds daft but the article gives no indication of numbers and I don't want to make assumptions.

The image you have would not have been the Original record of Marriages in Rosemary Street. The Original records would have been hand written.

Perhaps to make sure you get the correct information a search of the Original records in PRONI would be called for.

This would also help to identify what denomination it was.

Thanks, John, that's a good idea. 

I'm fairly certain that this record shows Thomas DELAHAY's occupation because a census entry indicates that his father John was a farmer and two baptism register entries for Thomas' children show Thomas' occupation as "Attorney's Clerk". But, you're right, it would be best to go back to the original!
