Hi whiteKat,

Cornwall Census is Free Online

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,144624.0.html

1841 Richard is with his parents aged 9 at Callartha St Just. Edward is a Tin Miner. In the household is John ROWE a Mason  (Mary's father perhaps) HO107/144/8 Folio 17 Page 14

Do you have Richards Death Certificate? It should provide quite a lot of information on him. It should tell you if he was ever in SA. The only arrivals I am spotting in SA were married.

Richard HARVEY aged 47 father Edward mother Mary ROWE Victoria 1879/6943

Hi Ruskie

I have been unable to find Richard or his family in any census - have searched and searched. It all comes to a blank unfortunately.

Richard appears to have a brother Edward chr 1829.

Kris,
whiteKat said s/he has his death record (cause of death etc) - presumably this is the certificate?

PS. Looks like Kris and Ladyhawk have found them in 1841.  :)

Thank you all so much - your information is amazing. It is all helping to put the picture together. I didn't think of a different spelling to the name Harvey! Wonderful.

On Richard's Marriage Record it states his usual address as 'Adelaide' as is Margaret Canning's and they were married in May of 1854 so don't think it could be Richard on the ship Clara - but thanks.

Also have found a death of an Edward Harvey from scarlet fever aged 5 in St Just - could be Richard's brother hence no Edward on the census of 1841.

No, obviously not your Richard on the Clara.  ;)

I'm having no luck finding Richard in 1851 ...

I found this Edward HARVEY born 1829 but don't know if or what the connection to the Moyle's is or if it's the son of Edward & Mary Harvey

1841 Porkellis, Wendron
HO107 Piece:139 Book/Folio:5/47 Page:7

MOYLE, Edward M 60 1781 Cornwall Tin Miner
MOYLE, Mary F 60 1781 Cornwall
MOYLE, Bennet M 25 1816 Cornwall
MOYLE, James M 20 1821 Cornwall
MOYLE, Edward M 12 1829 Cornwall
MOYLE, Martha F 15 1826 Cornwall
HARVEY, Edward M 12 1829 Cornwall

I can't see Richard either on 1851 census

No me either. Maybe Richard was on his way to Australia by then and the rest had died. I will keep looking.

That is interesting about the younger Edward - the year is right for his birth. This gives food for thought and a rethink of his possible death.

Hi whiteKat,

If you use the free resources you will find no problem with the census entry either with the name or the residence.

A Richard arrived in SA in 1854 married was having children after your Richard was married in Vic.
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/epaminondas1853.htm

Another arrived in 1850 but he lists as a Butcher from Dorset.
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/stag1850.htm

and this one with wife Jane
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/neptune1853.htm

(only 3 I am spotting in the timeframe. No sign of Margaret CANNING arriving)

a Mary but no Margaret

http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/oregon1851.htm

Still they may have arrived as unassisted immigrants in which case it will be unlikely they are named.

Cheers Kris  :)
