Looking for McIlfactricks
« on: Tuesday 22 February 11 15:19 GMT (UK) »
I located a family of McIlfactricks in 1841 census in Ayrshire, then they
seemed to have vanished.  I thought Ireland, but no record
of them there.  Father John, wife Helen, several children, but
I am looking mainly for "Hugh McIlfactrick" who later married
a Jane Miller, and at some point was in Ireland around 1860-70,
but not on any census there. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks. SJB

Carole, I'm with you on being open minded on the surname McIlfactrick - there are no entries at all for this surname on IGI. If the surname did change over the years, Kilpatrick seems a relevant variant  :)

In Northern Ireland McIlfatrick, Kilpatrick, Kirkpatrick, McIlpatrick, etc. are all inter-changeable.

Thanks for the imput.  Interesting to note from 1851 census all
were born in Ireland. sounds like they may have gone back and
forth.  I found McIlfactricks in Kilrea Ireland, where I think my person
was born, but none of the names/dates match up.  Thanks for
checking. I'll keep searching. SJB

I've got McIlfatrick connections in Kilrea area but it's a common surname there. (If John's wife Helen was born in Ireland her name is more likely to be written as Ellen in Irish records).

I am basically looking for birth information for Annie and/or
Mary McIlfactrick, believing they were born in Kilrea area,
parents are Hugh and Jane McIlfactrick, don't know if there
are brothers and sisters.  None of the McIlfactrick info from
Kilrea matches these names or dates. (Annie born 1868, Mary 1862)
Both sisters came to U.S. and used the name McIlfactrick, not
Kilpatrick, altho maybe in Kilrea they were listed as Kilpatrick and
that's why I can't find them. SJB

Annie's birth should have been registered. Have you tried variations of Annie such as Agnes, Nancy and Hannah?
