Hello, looking for the birth of Harriet Greatrex born about 1830- 1836 Armitage Stafford

Given that she was aged 35 in the 1861 census, and the most likely death registration has her as aged 40 (Harriet WILLIAMS, Sep qtr 1870 Stafford 6b 6) I'd have thought her birthdate was more likely to be in the range 1825-1830.  What is your range of birthdates based upon?

NB In 1851 there is a 22 yr old unmarried Maria GREATREX in service in Rugeley, Staffs giving a birthplace of Armitage: HO107/2015/311/4.  She may well be related to Harriet in some way.

Thank you avm228,  I was going on her being 40 at time od death making a birth date of 1830 give or take a few years her husband Gearge Williams was born 1834, would that be her with the name wrong in 1851? is she to be found in Armitage in 1841

Sorry, I owe you an apology - Harriet was enumerated as only 26 in 1861! I don't know where on earth I got 35 from...  :-[

THere is a marriage for a William Greatrix to a Mary Birchall in Armitage on 25th July 1831 (IGI new search) who could possibly be her parents, but so far can see no sign of a baptism for Harriet.

I am afraid they are not immediately appearing in Armitage.

Thank you handm, I am just wondering if they were originally from derbyshire as it seems there are lots of Greatrex there, maybe Armitage was just a place they moved to in later years ? dont know where else to look

Hi Mallow

I have been following your thread with interest as I visit the churchyard at Armitage for OH parents grave.  I don't know about you but I always look at names on gravestones as I'm wondering round  ::) and have noticed some that may be of interest to you although I cannot remember for sure if they are Greatrix or Greatorex.  Hopefully, weather and everything else permitting, we will be there on Friday so I will have a look for you if you like?  It may solve your brick wall or may create another  ;D
