Jane was my grandfather Joseph's only sister and I remember visiting her a few times in Lossiemouth when I was a child.  I remember being in the Crockett family house which was called Shamrock, and the shamrock plant growing in the garden. Did you know why he was called Dogger?

thankyou for your reply...:) yes i do know why he was called dogger...fishing floats where originally made from stray dogs (before glass became readily available) i still have the mental image of the poor dog with corks in its legs in lossie museum :/ but i guess it was necessary :)
wow...i had no idea how far flung my great grandmothers family where...Ive always had a bit of wonderlust for the world - as did my grandad...now i know where it comes from :D
I have vague memories of the house, the last time i visited was when i was about 6ish so i wouldn't have known  about shamrock(the plant) then, but I'll ask my mum .
i was however told alot about the boat, also called the shamrock ,my grandad used to work as a fisherman until he moved south (my dad has an excellent photo of it ),he spent quite a few summer holidays up in lossie with William (his dad )maybe you met him at some point ?
my grandad used to tell me tales about being related to Davey Crockett, have you found any evidence to suggest that? and i was also told that the Crockett name was originally french..sorry for all the questions , its just really nice to meet you :)

Yes I know the site.  I do not think I met your father. Up to a year ago we stayed about just over an hour's drive from Lossiemouth, I managed to contact Crockett descendents in America and South Africa, There was originally only one t, but most of the family seemed to add a t over the years, prob. the registrar's fault. My cousin, the  daughter of my father's deceased brother Joe, emigrated and lives in Lower Hutt, near Wellington, but I have not seen her since she was a child. If you wish you can contact me by email, I will provide address if you wish.

Wondered if any one knows of about of a Mrs Titley, her maiden name was Crockett, she and her parents went to South Africa on holiday in 1960's to visit Crockett relatives.  Sorry I have very limited info. Her father would have been quite elderly at this time.
 :)
