Crockett - New Zealand
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 21:12 GMT (UK) »
Any info re Crockett's who went to New Zealand. Family born in Drainie, Lossiemouth.   Some went mid 1800's I think and descendents of theirs went early 1900's.  I think some of the family might have settled in the Wellington area.   ;)

Hi,

I can see some Crockett's living in the Wellington area in the 1911 Electoral Roll, but need names to clarify.

Cheers

The family who went in mid 1800's was brother of William Crockett born 1807 married to Mgt. Ralph I think his name was James.  The other Crockett descendents were family of William's son James Crockett born 1843 d.1927 he was married to Jane Wood, b1841 d 1912. I think it might have been his son Edward b1874 and his wife and family.  Edward had many brothers but only one sister called Jane after her mother and she was born 1880.   Jane Wood's mother was called Lizinda or Lucinda Petrie born 1817 who was the widow of George Wood.   :)

I can't see any James or Edward Crockett deaths that would fit the ages you have given
I think you might need to give us more information on these people.
The Crocketts I have found on passenger lists are all Irish.

Cheers Janette

Hi jrocket
   ... and welcome.   :)

Perhaps you could tell us also, where you got the info about the CROCKETT family actually coming to New Zealand.  That may help our searching.   ;)

I know very little info other than in the 1950's my parents and I were going to emigrate to New Zealand and live with an uncle of my father, whose name was James Crockett,  but at that time his own son married and went to live with his parents and my father was unable to emigrate as his uncle no longer had accomodation for us.
I am a new member and did spot another new member from New Zealand was researching Lucinda Petrie Crockett who died in Nelson 7.7.1990 and who married a John McKnight on 19.4.1933 and although I replied to her post heard nothing further.  I knew Lucinda Petrie was my gr.gr.grandmother born in Scotland 1817 and therefore deduced that Lucinda Petrie Crockett must have been related to me.  I also had been told that my gr.gr grandfather William Crockett b.1807 in Drainie Lossiemouth had a brother James Crockett born in Drainie who emigrated to New Zealand sometime in the 1800's.  Sorry but this is all the info I know. :(

Hi jrocket

Cheers for the additional information.   :)

Yes, I'd also spotted the other New Zealand researcher on the Scotland board ... who I notice has not been online since Wednesday, so maybe has not yet seen the message which you posted ?  ;)

*  So do you think the Edward CROCKETT (whose wife was Margaret Ann STEWART - and who were the parents of this Lucinda b.c. 1913), is related to your family ?

Still working on finding this James CROCKETT you talk of.

Lu,

The only James Crockett I can see on the 1911 Electoral Roll was a Farm Labourer, the Electorate was Chalmers and place of residence Fairfield.
