Larkins Crew and Passenger List 1849

I have also been looking for a list of the Passengers and crew of the Larkins. I found the following list on line that may help you. I am planning a trip to wellington archives next week to check the orginal documentation.

Hi,
Have been researching Lewis Edwards/ Margaret Duff as they are my husbands ancestors, have found out that Lewis changed his name in America, he married Margaret Duff, 23/5/1850 they had 6 children, and are both buried in a private cemetery in Company Bay, Dunedin Otago Pens. hope this of some help to you,     have found a really good lot of information about them from a site "  My Heritage Edward family website (Sue Edwards) in New Zealand,  Margaret

Hi Jennifer,
Last year we took the plunge and paid for a lady in England to see if she could find a crew list and thankfully she did. He did sign on as Lewis Edwards on the Larkins and we have copies of this ship and the 2 previous ships that he was a crew member on. He was born in Gotenburg Sweden and we are now searching to see if we can find the parish where he was born. If we can get that then the next question will be did he go to America with family or leave Sweden as a seaman. 
Gee I wish he had shared his previous life with his family and left some photos for us to make it that little bit easier researching.

I would though like to know what you know of him in America and when he changed his name there.

Louis Edwards aka Lars Peterson

Died Dunedin, NZ, 7 October 1873
Deserted ship “Larkin” in Port Chalmers NZ, 8 November 1849
Joined ship ‘Larkin’ in UK 5 June 1849 as Able Seaman.  Noted as age 29 (therefore born probably 1820) and place of birth listed as Gottenburg.
Served in ship ‘Aztec’ 5 Sept 1848 to 17 May 1849, on a voyage from London to Newcastle to Havanna and back to London. Ships crew list notes him as Able Seaman and born in Gottenburg.
Served in ship ‘Dunrobin’   for two voyages between 16 Sept 1847 and Aug 1848, when he was discharged in London.
He may have emigrated from Sweden to the USA aged around 14 years old. This may indicate he emigrated with his family? Have found a record showing a Lars Peterson formerly of Sweden took US citizenship at the Marine Court of New York on 11 April 1839, having lived in the US for at least five years and in the State of New York for at least one year.
Family oral history suggests after gaining US citizenship Lars changed his name to Louis Edwards.
No record of whereabouts from 1839 in New York through 1847 in the UK.
