Flixton parish baps - BARLOW
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 15:40 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Please can anyone help me to identify a baptism for Hannah Barlow, circa 1845 at Flixton, Lancashire?

Hannah was a nurse child in the household of the Pearson family in 1851 & 1861 aged 6 years and 16 years, so no evidence of her parents are known, only that she was born at Flixton circa 1845.

There is no suitable entry of birth either in the indexes at the GRO.

If anyone can help me to identify Hannah, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Carol

Hi,

I found this Baptism at St. Michaels, Flixton:

11th May, 1845
Hannah daughter of Ellen Barlow, Flixton, Single Woman

It may be yours but  :-\

Mo

Thank you so much Mo, I do believe this could well be the correct entry.  Hannah Barlow was definitely born at Flixton and by the time she was 6 she was a nurse child in another family's household.   Inevitably if her mother was a single woman and unable to keep her daughter (or perhaps she died), then it is highly likely Hannah would have been brought up elsewhere.

Thank you, I am really grateful for this.

Hello again Mo

I have now received the marriage certificate for Hannah Barlow which confirms her mother's name was Ellen, so thank you for identifying the correct baptism entry at Flixton.

I wonder if I could trouble you for a couple more entries from the Flixton PRs.

Baptism; circa 1841 Thomas Royle, mother Betty (possibly an illegitimate birth)
Marriage; circa 1794 George Royle to Betty
Marriage; 1815 John Royle to Mary
Burial;  after 1841 Betty Royle (widow) aged over 70.

If there is any help or advice as to how I can access these entries, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks again
Carol

I have on occasion required the services of a professional genealogist and paid for results that they have obtained for me, that because of geographical location and perhaps other reasons, I wasn't able to research myself.

Could you please advise me whether it is usually expected that such a person would do their own research work? and what charges would be made for results that have been discovered by Rootschat forum members on behalf of that "professional" person?

For example, what sort of charges would I be expecting to pay that researcher for say, the information provided by Mo, above.

Hello Mary A

Your post is very interesting but I am sorry I cannot answer it accurately as my enquiries on this forum are purely for my own family tree.  I have no idea what charges a professional researcher would make if he/she were to acquire information from the Rootsweb forum.

Carol
