Liverpool

I am grateful for any help in Liverpool research.
My grandfather was born Archie Boor 1 October 1883 at 131 Arlington Street. Father is Matthew Boor a Brass Driller. I am trying to find any further information of where Matthew may have worked, are there any occupation records for Liverpool?
I have looked at the Liverpool Records Office site, entered "Matthew Boor" but nothing returned. They offer professional research starting £10 for 30 minutes but what can they research?
Prior to 1884 the family were in Salford but from Street Directories I see they were at 27 Louis Street Scotland Road in 1885, 27 Akenside Street Bootle in 1886 and 12 Dryden Street Bootle in 1889. By the 1891 census they were at 30 Waterworks Street Bootle. Matthew appears as a Steam Engine Maker - Fitter. He was born in Germany and in the early 1890's the family moved to Salford. Matthew died in 1897.
Can any one help with occupation records so we can learn more about Matthew, we do not know where in Germany he was born.
Many thanks.
Colin

Hiya Colin...I am quoting from a family tree dated 1710
Bauer / Baur /Boor  in Seelbach,Saarland, Germany

I am going to google Saarland ...my gg grandfather was born Heligoland   Was British owned...now German owned...this may be the same scenario...back soon....allan :)

OK Saarland is one of the 16 states of Germany...Saarbrucken is the Capital..

Another one 1783  Ubereherne, Germany  ...btw it seems a predominately Netherlands name...

Hi Garstonite,
From his marriage & death certificate Matthew was born about 1847.
Matthew doesn't appear on the 1871 cesus or any obvious variation of his name. This is our brickwall and one of the possibilities is that Matthew Boor is an English version of his German name, as you suggested.
He first "appears" in 1873 when he married my greatGrandmother Mary Ann Alice Parkinson in Darlington. Family legend has it he may be from Alsace-Lorraine, which was annexed by Germany in the Franco-Prussion war. But this is unproven.
