William Parker born 1884
« on: Wednesday 16 February 11 16:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to trace my ancestor William Parker. He was born in February 1884 and his birth was registered in Loughborough; the index reference is 'vol 7a page 131'. I need to find out the names of his parents to try to trace his family tree. Apparently he was in an orphanage by 1891 and therefore does not show up on the census. I think the name of the orphanage was the Countess Thorpe in Leicestershire but I can't find any records. He was apparently sent to Australia as part of a scheme to relocate impoverished children. Please can you help with any information regarding this matter.
Thank you.

First of all, orphanages should be on the census - though sometimes the inmates were only recorded wioth initials.

To find his parents, you need to order his birth cert
Can be ordered online from www.gro.gov.uk using the ref you have from the indexes, cost £9-25

What I do question, though, is how you know that is the right birth for him? I guess you found him later in life in Australia giving a very specific time and place of birth?

(Oh, Mort, red letters just come up, seems I am probably missing something vital! Will post anyway)
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi
The birth date and place information was given to me by my mother-in-law who recently passed away. She was not completely sure but it is all I have to go on. The only definite information I have is that after returning from Australia he got married in 1918 in Derbyshire to Annie Anderton. I have his family tree from then until present day. It is possible that he got sent to Australia before 1891 and that is reason that he does not appear on the census.
