Why  do you  think that  the 1835 one is related?

Neither of the Donald's that I've identified in the Scottish censuses were that  young - One was born circa 1808 and the other circa 1816. John was born in 1837, so the 1835 one would have been only 2  :-\  Also, Margaret/Peggy was born 1848-1850, so he would have been 13-15.

I think that the one you've found in 1881 is likely to be someone totally different and it is just a coincidence.

It's tricky, but given what you know about the later censuses, the evidence suggests that John  and Margaret are probably siblings so Donald McLean,  the sawyer, and Ann Mcleod are likely to be the parents. It's a bit of a percentage game though and I'd rate this couple as slightly better odds at the moment.

I think you really do need to get the marriage cert of Margaret and Peter Dutton so that you can get Donald's occupation

June q, 1881, Northwich, v 8a p 331

The Parish records  from Christ Church, Crowton on family search pilot  has her father as Donald Maclean but no occupation. Peter's father is William - which explains their son's name. Unfortunately, Peter's mother is an Ann so we can't say that the Ann in Sarah Ann came from Margaret's mother  :-\  However, there is no Mary, which again favours Ann as her mother.

The two trees on Ancestry (both Harkiss) have the other family but they don't have her married to anyone either!

DONALD MACLEAN (1815 – 11:2:1890), son of Finlay/Margaret Macdonald from Gravir, married (at Lochs on 23:4:1832) Ann Macleod (1815 – 16:8:1866), daughter of Malcolm/Catherine Ferguson from Garyvard.

They lived in Garyvard before moving to Balallan in the late 1830's. They moved to Stornoway in c1851.
Donald remarried to Christina Campbell (1834 – 1894) from Keith Street, Stornoway in Stornoway on 2:12:1874.

Son John was a ships carpenter. He married Mary Maclennan (1842 – 28:1:1884) of Coulregrein, Stornoway in Stornoway on 2:4:1868. They lived in Stornoway.

Don't know what happened to Margaret (b1848) or Mary (b1850)
