Ballyness, Donegal

Could someone tell me if I am going down the right path regards a birth I found.

The child in question was born in Ballyness in 1878, could someone tell me the correct registion district. Could it be Dunfanaghy?

I don't want to go ahead and buy it if I am barking up the wrong tree!

According to the townland database (www.thecore.com/seanruad) the Poor Law Union (PLU) which covered Ballyness is Dunfanaghy. The PLU is generally includes the same area as the registration district of the same name.

Thank you so much for the reply and yes indeed you have sent the one I am interested in!
Fanny  Stewart was my interest, and I see no father was mentioned. Margaret married in Scotland to Oliver Anderson 3 years after Fanny was born. In later census Fanny is listed as an Anderson. I wonder who the informant was?
I presume then that this is the same information as on the birth certificate, and the father would not be named.

 Hi Jacqui
 The information for Fanny's birth registration was from a transcription of the register.
 It's unlikely that there is more info on the original but it would be worth finding out.
 Sometimes notes are added to an entry especially if there is a discrepancy such as no father's name!
 As Margaret would have just been in her late teens then it is likely the birth would have been illigitimate and possible that she was just working or visiting Ballyness.
 It was obviously important enough though to quote the exact townland and not the parish or nearest large town.

 There were no Stewarts or McClaffertys shown in Ballyness on the Griffiths Valuations of about 1856.
 The only one of either name in the 1901 Census is Betty Stewart, a widow aged 87yrs.

 I've noticed on another posting you give Margaret's mother as Elizabeth McCAULEY. I wonder is that the widow Betty above?
 The Valuation books might show the preceding and subsequent ownership of Betty's holding.

According to the 1891 census of Scotland Margaret is born in Ireland, In the 1901 census it is more specific being Ballyness like her daughter. Her birth year does seem to vary, 1859-1861. On Margarets marriage her mother as you said was indeed Elizabeth Mcauley, on her death record though it says Margaret Stewart M.s Stewart. The latter must be a mistake. It is definitely the correct death cert. as it names all 3 of her husbands!!! Fathers name is consistent being Robert Stewart, Farmer.
Just as a side note she married her sisters husband after sister Elizabeth died. Both sisters married Oliver Anderson in Glasgow.
The valuation records fascinate me, how do you view them to see previous and subsequent owners of land?
