Colwyn Bay and John Jones Blacksmith

My great, great grandfather b, 1802 was a blacksmith all his working life and lived in his later years in Colwyn Bay having been born in Eglwysrhos.  John was married to Ellen born in 1822 in Llanfairfechan and they had 5 children. 

I have a great deal of information about them already but after recently sending for John's death certificate i am mystified to see he lived at Colwyn Terrace, Colwyn Bay when he had been with Ellen and family at Brynhyfrydd until 1871.  I am also unsure why he was at Colwyn Terrace in 1873 (year of his death aged 71), and a person called Margaret Williams of Colwyn Terrace registered his death!  This is the first time i have encountered the Williams name and if anyone knows where Colwyn Terrace used to be or if there was ever a nursing home there etc  might point me in the right direction.  I also do not know where his smithy in Colwyn Bay was, he had previously worked at Marl Smithy employing 2 apprentice smiths.

 I found reference to a smithy in the area of Penybryn.  It was where the Llanelian road crossed Glanymor road.  It was run by William Williams in 1860 and he also ran the Post Office in Old Colwyn.  My grandmother Margaret Roberts, also lived in the Penybryn area in Twnan terrace opposite Bethesda house.  Now Penybryn.  When she got married she went to live in 1, Colwyn Terrace where my father's sister Margaret was born in 1910.  In the 1911 census 1 Colwyn Terrace is registered to Jane Hughes, a dressmaker.  So they'd moved out.  Colwyn Terrace was in the census near Granrafon Terrace.  Glanrafon means by the river.  So maybe Colwyn Terrace was near the river in the same area.  It's funny that our 2 families lived in Penybryn area and then moved to Colwyn terrace.

Thanks very much for the info on Colwyn Terrace.  My great grandmother, Mary Roberts (b1846)  lived in 5 Twnan Terrace in 1891.  Her husband was John Roberts (b1851)  Their children were Mary J (1875), Ellin A (1878), Robert (1880), Margaret (1883), William J (1887).  Margaret married my grandfather John Edward McHale and lived with him in 1 Colwyn Terrace.  Their children were Margaret McHale (1910), John Peter McHale (1907) and Edward Joseph McHale (1905) - my dad.  My dad died when I was 7 and my mum, now dead, lost touch with his family, so I'm only now tracking down my relatives.  The McHales were house painters and the head of the Roberts household in Twnan Terrace was a labourer.  I imagine that these terraces were build for labourers and those working on the new buildings and railway as Colwyn Bay grew into a resort.  If I find any links I'll let you know.  Thanks, Lynn
