Leadgate, St Ives (Co Durham)

Would someone be able to do a look up in the parish records of Leadgate for me please.

I am looking for the burial of a Joseph Dodd (born 1847) and an Isabella Dodd (born 1848). they were last seen on the 1911 census at 167 Bottle Bank, Leadgate.

they may be down as Dodds as the name was sometimes recorded as such. I have searched the GRO indexes and can not find a suitable registration for either their ages or in Lanchester RD.

There are a few possibilities on freebmd under DODDS but the ages are not exact

Joseph b 1852 and Isabella 1853 - both in 1913

Isabella b 1852 - 1929

However - that is only using the RD as Lanchester.  There is no guarantee that they continued living in that RD after 1911

I spotted those but I can rule them out as there are wills on the national probate index that give enough information to discount them.

Between 1911 and 1921, I can find the death of an Isabella Dodds in the Gateshead District in March 1911 aged 62 (vol. 10a page 533), that would make her born in 1849, just 1 year out from your date.......

I can find the death of a Joseph Dodds in the Lanchester District in March 1913 aged 61 (vol 10a page 500), that would make him born in 1852.

There is also another death in the Gateshead District in December 1921 aged 70 (vol 10a page 953), that would make him born in 1851.

Any chance any of these could be them? Info from FreeBMD.......

The 1911 Isabella Dodds I can discount as I have that certificate - and its the wrong one.

The 1913 Joseph Dodds I have discounted because there is a will on the national probate index and the 1901 census which together rule him out.

The 1921 Joseph I have also ruled out based on the 1901 census records.

It seems Isanella and Joseph Dodd(s) was a not uncommon combination and is causing several people I have asked a similar problem in not being able to find the correct death.

I have been looking for the burial of my gg grandfather Robert Blake French for 10 years now and am still searching.

He was definitely buried in St. Ives, Leadgate. and when my father died we decided to scatter his ashes on the family plot.  I was absolutely devastated it had certainly been neglected for some time.  The grass was nearly 2 ft high.

I complained and complained and eventually the grass was cut and it has been cut regularly and well looked after for 5 years now.  Whats more interesting is that the more the grass is cut more and more headstones appear that have probably been buried or lost for many years now.  I only live half a mile from St. Ives so I do visit quite often on the off chance that my headstone will appear.

If you ring 01207 218815 they are so helpful and are prepared to do FREE look ups in their burial records, another plus is if they cant find your burial in a specific graveyard they are more than prepared to search every graveyard in every district within Derwentside.

There is another graveyard in Leadgate which is called BROOMS this may be worth an ask aswell.

If you can let me know if you have any positive results and I will pop along and take some pictures for you.
