Ireland to Glasgow
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 18:18 GMT (UK) »
I have several ancestors who emigrated from Ireland to Glasgow in about mid 1800s

Terance Wilson born c1831 Glass bottle labourer religion Catholic
Ann Wilson nee O'Hara born c1831 wife of Terance

Jane McGuire who married Peter Clark

In all the censuses so far they just note birthplace as "Ireland" ( 1911 Scotland census not published til April 2011).

I am stuck as to how to find out where in Ireland they came from - any ideas appreciated

Nicola

I'm afraid you're caught in a kind of vicious circle - you need to know where in Ireland your Wilson and O'Hara families lived to check for parish records.

see :

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

 Introduction to Irish Records

p.s. it didn't really count as immigration, since Ireland was part of the UK at that stage.
