Hunt,Mary Jane,Uitenhage,S.Africa.
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 14:03 GMT (UK) »
My paternal Grandmother,Mary Jane Hunt was born in Uitenhage 22nd November 1892,daughter of Peter and Mary Jane Hunt.
The above records came from the Weslyan Church in Uitenhage.
At some point she emigrated to Perth,Western Australia, with or without her parents,I just don't know.
Certainly she was in Perth by 1916 as she married Thomas Horatio Milward, aka (Horatio Thomas Milward) of Perth  on  29th January 1916.
They had a child Trevor Sidney Harding Milward, born 26th December 1917. at Subiaco.
As far as I know, she lived the rest of her life in Perth,Western Australia but I don't know her date of death.
Horatio Thomas Milward divorced her in 1925.
She married again in Perth this time  to a Richard Bourke or Burke  in 1926..
I am trying to find out what ship she came to Australia on and what date applies.

If any member has a connect with any  family  " Hunt" in their family history research , I would be grateful for help solving this mystery.

Any information will be much appreciated.

Thank you !

HI Looking on Ancestry.com there is a death index record for a Mary J Bourke registered in Fremantle in 1937 registration number 156 which might be her - I am afraid it doesn't give much more information. You could perhaps order a copy from BMD in WA.
Perhaps you should put this query on the Australian board as well
Regards

Gillian

Hi Gillian,
That is interesting, thank you. I will not rule this death date you have given me  out and will post an enquiry on the Australian site as you suggest.
The only thing that bothers me is  my recollection of what my mother once told me was that on the death in Melbourne in 1948 of her former husband,Thomas H. Milward, which death was reported in Western Australian newspaprs,my father, T.S.H.Milward apparently got a letter from Mary Jane, expressing sadness at T.H.Milward's death and proposing a re-connection with the  son she so wilfully abandoned in 1925 and even before that.
The story goes that my father wrote her off way back in the late 1920s and refused to reply to Mary Jane's letter of 1948/49.
I appreciate your time and effort very much !
Cheers,

Those dates you supplied appear to directly correlate with all my cousins findings where mary was born in Soth Africa and we know she Married your Grandfather. In fact somewhere I used to have an old picture of my fathers step brother. I may even still have it somewhere.
