John Donovan and Ellen Sullivan from Clonakilty - convict to NSW
« on: Saturday 12 February 11 20:59 GMT (UK) »
Greetings,
my family (Power/Lindwall) in Australia are descended from a Mary Donovan (who became Mary Power). She emigrated to NSW Australia in 1834 aboard the James Pattison. I believe she probably came after her father a John Donovan, probably a convict. We think the family came from Clonakilty and thanks to the Irish geneology website, I now believe her mother was Ellen Sullivan, not an Elizabeth Mahoney as previously thought (although there were Mahoney's listed on her birth notes and a Bridget Mahoney was on the same ship).

Just wondering if anybody has links to this couple? We have a lot of information on their descendants who made a successful life as farmers and gold miners on the NSW south coast. Unfortunately, Mary died quite young (48) but not before she had many children - founding the Power / Lindwalls.
Donovans of Clonakilty, Cork, Powers of Waterford, Cork, Kilkenny, Tipperary.
