Not sure whether you are researching Albert Laker but he was the first husband of my gt gt grandmother, Sarah Bower and they married on 12 April 1864 in the Parish Church of St George Bloomsbury. Both their addresses are given as 10 Wilmot Street.  John Laker, Farmer is Albert's father and Robert Bower, Watchman is Sarah's father.  Witnesses were Henry Adams and Sophia Williams.  Not sure who these two are but they may be of interest to you at some point in your search.  Albert died young of "effusion of service on brain" when he was an omnibus conductor leaving Sarah a young widow with three children, one I traced later on living in Warwick married to a Frank Smith Nash, Asylum Attendant.  Sarah went on to have many children with Thomas Smith (marriage details never found) and died in Warwick Workhouse in 1909.  I have the Laker family in 1851 at 15 Honey Lodge, West Grinstead but by Felix Laker's name I have put 1871 Thakeham.  I wrote this a few years ago but suspect this is where he was although for some reason haven't put full details, probably knowing me because I had ran out of credits on the ancestry website and just had enough to see that he was in Thakeham.  Hope this helps.  If I find anything else about the 1861 in any of my files I will let you know.

Regards

Helen

Hi Helen,

The 1851 entry for our Laker family in W.Grinstead is actually Honeybridge not Honey Lodge.... just thought I'd point that out in case you were trying to research the area.  The family were also there in 1841.  I have Felix in all the census years except 1861 so maybe he was just missed for some reason or wrongly transcribed.

Thanks for the info. on Albert.  I haven't been researching him, only his brother Felix, seeing as that's my direct line but thanks for the details though. It's always nice to know bits & pieces and of course that makes us related !!!

I'd love to see photo's of them but I don't have any unfortunately. I expect someone out there has some and I live in hope of finding one sometime.

Regards,  Julie

Hello

Just checked my file again and looks like I couldn't find the entire family except Albert in 1861 either.  It's possible they are missed off or under a mistranscribed name although knowing me I would have looked for that.  Another possibility is they emigrated in between censuses, and returned by the next one, something I have come across a few times on different sides of the family.

Also thanks for the details about the address in 1851.  Looks like I had read that wrong!

If I come across anything else I will let you know.

All the best

Helen

Hi again Helen.

You wouldn't be able to find Albert and Felix's parents (John & Ruth) on the 1861 census because they both died before that date.  I have all their death details if you want them any time.
