Renault 4 seater,Swansea 1913-1920
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 09:12 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather,Thomas Milward ( Millward), of 1 Brunswick Place,148 St. Helens Rd,Swansea, owned a motor vehicle described as a Renault 4 seater sometime between 1913-1920 and it was purchased by his young widow in 1920-21,my great grandfather having died in November 1920.
Estate documents show it had number plates but no detail.
I am trying to get a fix on exactly what the description of that car was and what its number plate displayed. Also any possible photos of it or the model.I do not know the manufacturing year of that Renault.
Any help is very much appreciated,

Even in 1913, Renault sold more than 15 different models.

But try this link for a 1909 - type BH.

It will give you an idea?

Note to Mods: Please forgive the link to a commercial site (the car is/was for sale) but I couldn't find a decent photo anywhere else!

Sir,
I really appreciate your reply. It is very possible that he owned this model.I was working on a known year he had ownership which may not equate to genesis of ownership.
It is very helpful and I am delighted to have the picture.

No idea what they contain but these records at the West Glamorgan Archive Service office might help:

Reference: D/D PRO/VL/S: Records of vehicle licensing, Swansea Borough

Swansea Car 1920
« Reply #5 on: Tuesday 08 February 11 08:54 GMT (UK) »
My Gt. Grandfather, Thomas Milward ( Millward),Swansea, had his car, a Renault insured with
"Scottish Insurance Coy.".as shown in debts owed by him at his death in November 1920.
Can anyone tell me if this Insurance Coy. still exists and how I could access records that would show details of this car that Thomas Milward owned ?
Much obliged for any leads .
Thank you !

On my Gt.Grandfather,Thomas Milward's ( Millward's) death in November 1920 at Swansea,he had a debt to a firm called "Palmer & Evans" for " number plates on his car , being for 1 pound 5 shillings"
I am trying to ascertain the detail of that number plate, and also I want to understand the number plate issue situation as it existed in Swansea in 1920.
Does the firm,"Palmer & Evans " still exist ?
Any help is much appreciated,
Thank you !

Car damage claim Swansea 1920
« Reply #7 on: Tuesday 08 February 11 09:17 GMT (UK) »
At my Great Grandfather Thomas Milward's ( Millward's) death in Swansea,November 1920,there was a debt owed or claim unpaid by him for damage to a motor car, amounting to 5 pounds. The claim was put in to the Public Trustees by  a Mr. Dixon.
Has anyone come across anything that could throw some light on this ?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
