The 1901 census says that Robert Bain and his wife Ann Henderson lived at Cromie Cottage (one "m: in Cromie). Their children were listed there in the 1891 census (must have been a transcript on error as the parents were missing from the electronic record).
I couldn't locate Cromie Cottage when searching the internet. Fortunately, I had an opportunity last weekend to visit with my 86 year-old great aunt. She had never heard of Cromie Cottage, but had notes that Robert Bain's home and tailor shop were in Six Mile House in Kingswell. When I searched using that building name I came across a Six Mile House and a Crommie Cottage at Six Mile Fork (two "m"s in Crommie).
I'm not very proficient with Google maps, and couldn't seem to locate either. Can anyone help me
- to understand if these two locations are the same?
- if there is somewhere I can search to identify the history of the building and if there is any existing information on the Bain business located there in the late 1800s and into the 1900s.
- how to get to the building if one is in Aberdeen as I'm planning to visit this summer.
TX in advance for any assistance that can be provided.
