Martha Ann Steele
« on: Wednesday 09 February 11 22:19 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Martha Ann Steeles mothers name. She married George Carr in 1890 in stoke on trent, staffordshire, according to the 1891 census she was born in Heaton Mersey, Lancashire in about 1870, i cant find the Carr family in the 1901 census, but in the 1911 census they reappear living in the same street (Peel Street in Hanley) and her birthplace is Eaton Mersey. According to her marriage certificate she was 20 years old in 1890 and her fathers name was Daniel Steele and he was an engine driver. I  cant find either Martha Ann Steele or her father Daniel in the earlier censuses. Could anyone help me please?

as Martha Ann Steele married in Stoke on Trent ......there is a marriage for
Daniel Steele to either ANN KELSELL or Hannah Meigh  dec qtr 1858 in Stoke on Trent...on freebmd...maybe the family came from Stoke on Trent to Heaton Mersey - then went back to Stoke at a later date ?...

so on www.cheshirebmd.org.uk     1869
Martha Ann Steel       Heaton Norris    Stockport   mothers maiden name   KELSALL    HEA/39/35

I think this may be the mother

Thank you both for your replies to my Martha Ann Steele question. You have both given me the first name Ann and if Ann and Daniel did marry in stoke on trent i should be able to find the record at the local library. Thank you again, Focus.

Thanks for everyones help on Martha Ann Steele. I sent off for the birth certificate from heaton mersey and the fathers details were the same as on her marriage certificate, he was an engine driver in a cotton factory and her mother was Ann Kelsall. I went to the library and she married Daniel Steele then was a widow when she married William Ratcliffe.
