West Norfolk Militia
« on: Wednesday 09 February 11 15:37 GMT (UK) »

I have an ancestor who is named as a PRINCIPAL in a Deserters List of the West Norfolk Militia in 1803. Does anyone know if there would be a record of the Principal, stating his age, place of birth etc.?  If so , where would I find it?
I hope someone can help.   Cee

Thanks for your input Fred. What I really need to know is,-- Does the Principal go on the militia list & give all his personal details before choosing & paying for a substitute? If this happens where are the  lists for the Principals  kept?
    Regards, cee

Thomas Rowlands & Alphonse Nolin

Alphonse was a Sergeant in the West Norfolk Militia.

He was also known as Thomas Rowlands.

Any information on his attestation would be appreciated.  He seemed to join sometime in the 1840's and pensioned out in 1872 by all accounts.  I am interested in the years between his attestion of 1840's and into the 1850's.  I have him with his wife in 1861 and through to his death in 1897.
