Helina

(If you read the link I posted to the tech instructions it shows pictures of your router.)

On the router is a button (or switch) named "wifi on/off".
(It is to the left of the main on/off button or switch)
You turn wifi access on and off with that button or switch.

Ensure that the wifi switch is turned on

Mornng all!
Now that the model of the modem is now known we can progress further.
Helina's provider (Orange) have provided a complete set up guide on their website.
http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/461589
After reading the instructions I would print out for future, bearing in mind the setting up consists of 2 parts.
1) Checking that wired connection works and settings correct.
2) Wireless set up (at the bottom of wired set up page, click on wireless settings)
So with your 'yellow' wire connecting modem to laptop follow instuctions to the letter.
(Diagrams are provided to confirm boxes to be ticked/information to be entered)
Suggest you take a break after doing wired connection confirmation.
I will check back later this evening, some of us work odd hours inc Sunday.

Helina
Have you any thing to report?
My daughter says that the task should take about 15 minutes.
Or are you wanting someone to do the job for you!

Brian,

I think Helina is still trying to pluck up courage to attempt to job. Like many others on the boards, when it comes to anything technical, it scares her rotten....  Shame she doesn't have anyone close by who she can call on to help out with computers...

it might be some time before she reports back.

O'k
That has been my feelings throughout!
Rather than suggesting solutions, I would rather point to a known solution.
(Where possible printing out for reference later)
Reading through the document (link), then going to second page is quite straight forward.
Possible she may pay for someone to set up for her, all it needs is someone who is confident to press the correct key when required.

does anyone who knows what they are doing get free phone calls to Gloucester? It may be easier to talk Helina through the process.
Just a thought.
