What an absolute gem you are Val. To have that info pop up on my screen just out of the blue, so to speak, was amazing. Her Ferguson parents too will be a valuable addition to my tree.
I was reading it last night and got so carried away with it that I poured myself a couple of drams more than I should have. And no, I don’t have six toes. There is a peculiarity that runs in the family though but my sisters don’t like it being mentioned.

Isn’t it a sheer stroke of luck that Daniel registered the death as her ‘son-in-law’ and not as her stepson.
It solves the question I raised here Here

About Ann’s DOB. .. I read somewhere that ‘Ann’ was often used as a variation for ‘Janet’ so I did a search for Janet McNaughtan. I re-did the search today and the date comes up as 27th Sept 1807.  Don’t recall where I got the August date but I imagine that will be the date of birth and the September date will be the Christening.

Thank you too for the list of Mary’s sibling but I am confused as to why there are two Margaret’s there.
You have certainly given me plenty of info to mess about with and for that, you have my sincere thanks.

Cheers.

My Family Tree program is having a nervous breakdown trying to get to grips with these relationships.    :-\

Glad to have helped, Fergie.
I think that the first Margaret must have died, then the next female child born was given her name. I think that was quite common.

Janet/Ann McNaughtan had a twin called William! Parents were John McNaughtan and Janet Murray, "Moss" - so we know they were on the moss - will check for them on the 1814 census.

Agreed.  I more or less confirmed an example of this when I viewed an entry from the 1911 census.

You're a marvel Val.
I'd never given a thought to the 1814 census. I have a part of it but not all.
And I think that we have once again an example of a name being re-used. The strange thing about it, that I have just noticed, is that the Jannet who died is younger than the Jannet who survived. Now there's a mystery. ?
First time too that Breadalbane has come up. the family seems to be well concentrated in Highland Scotland and yet I have red hair so there must be some Norse blood on there somewhere. probably from the McLean branch of the tree.
Don't know when I last fed in so much info in one day.

Many thanks.

Hi Fergie
I think by Breadalbane they mean Killin area. I found several possibilities there but none was a good fit. If you google 1814 Moss Census you will find the whole thing on Chuck Speed's website.
Do you have any Fergusons on Sommers lane? Some of my ancestors boarded with them after the parents died. What is 100% certain is that my ancestors would have known yours! My ancestors - McLaren, King, Dow, McFarlane, McGowan,   Robertson, Stewart and McCall all lived on the moss, and many of them are on the 1814 census.
If you pm me your email address I'll send you the docs I have referred to above.
