FOOTNOTE: *COMPLETED* Baptism of Jane AKERMAN in Woodstock

Hi Everyone

I am not sure if people keep track of threads once they are completed but just in case ....

I got a copy of the shipping list from the Tasmanian archives for Jane CHARLWOOD daughter of Jane AKERMAN. Interestingly she was sponsored by Edward AKERMAN who was born in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Edward (born abt 1808) was transported to Tasmania for stealing from his master in 1830. It is, I think, reasonable to assume that Edward and Jane are related either as siblings or cousins.

Another interesting fact is that Jane declared her religion to be Wesylan (though she was baptized in CoE church). If this is her mothers' religion, it may explain why Jane's (the mother) birth doesn't appear in the parish records (I am assuming that the search didn't cover non-conformist records).

Regards

Mark

Hi again Mark,
There are a few baptisms in the OFHS transcription of Woodstock parish register that may interest you.

1807 Aug 16  AKERMAN William s. of Jane
1810 Jan 7     AKERMAN Edward s. of Jane
1815 Feb 15  AKERMAN Maria d. of William CHARWOOD shoebinder, and Jane AKERMAN
1817 Nov 12 CHARLWOOD Frederick s. of William, shoemaker, and Jane

So perhaps the convict Edward AKERMAN is Jane's son?

Bev

Thanks for this. William CHARLWOOD was a shoemaker (from the marriage certificate of their daughter Mary Ann). It looks like there is a few more children in that family that I knew about.

Thanks again

Mark
