Carnmoney Cemetery
« on: Monday 18 April 05 00:33 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to records of Carnmoney Cemetery after 1900? Or knows of a online cite that has the records for that cemetery? I have family members that are buried there that died in the 1930's and later.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hi
Jog
I have looked thro info I have (mainly on old part of cemetery) and have found at least 3 graves belonging to MARTIN - with many of the given names you stated but no dates that match. I guess that means they could well be related to your rellies and yours are probably in newer part. There are also lots of REAs and HENDERSONs too but no matchin dates.

Have you looked on History from Headstones - I had a quick look and there seems to be a few MARTINS.

I may be over in Antrim later in year and could possibly have time to have a look and take a few photos for you if you have not had any success in meantime.

I see on another posting in this site Anthony suggests phoning the cemeteries and asking for info from them. Can't find it at mo, but it is probably on Antrim boards somewhere.

I will get back to you if I find anything.

Happy hunting - we may well be related (by marriage I think).

Saz ::)

Saz,
Thank you for checking. I have checked those sites and nothing that matches either. Course if his father and mother died before 1900 they could be buried in the older section.

Thanks again for checking. I appreciate it.

Hi All,

it's many years since I was in Carnmoney Cemetery but I remember that the grave next to our family grave has 'Martin' on the headstone. This area of the cemetery was opened in the late 1940's.

I have had a look at photos I have but, although I can see 'Martin', I can't read the names.

So, Saz & stevenson - when you walk through the gate of the 'new' Carnmoney, turn left and take the first path which goes towards Carnmoney Hill. The path turns to the right and then continues on until you reach the 'top end' of the cemetery where the first graves were opened. On the right side of the path, about 3 rows back from where the graves start, you will see a black marble headstone with 'McDonald' written on it. The grave to the right of it is 'Martin.'

You may not understand a word of this and it may not be the correct grave for jogarner  - but I enjoyed going back there - if only in memory. :'(
