Had a search for Richard Donohoe marriage got one Rathdown 1868 QTR 1 VOL 7 PAGE 830
Then searched for the match Catherine Monahan, None.

so i noticed on one or two of the births and Baptisms that her name was given as MARY Monahan so i found a match to that name in Rathdown 1868 QTR 1 VOL 7 PAGE 830

They were married in St Michael's,Kingstown 21st June 1868

Looks like Richard Donohoe may have been also married 12 years earlier in 1856 to Annie Keane/Kane

note the Latin in the remarks column in the above marriage may be referring to one of them being a Protestant.

found a death in 1866 on Glasnevin index for Anne Donohoe age 30
entered Terrace Place into address box and it still registers.

I think you will have to dismiss the 1856 marriage for Richard Donohoe,lots add up ie his parents are the same Michael and Marcella on both marriages both seemed to have lived at Terrace Place
on Laurence Sheridan's marriage 1885 Catherine O'Donohoe says her parents are dead

and there is a burial in 1872 of Richard Donohoe of Terrace Place age 40 in Glasnevin

so cant be sure its same man maybe just lots of coincidences.

I'd be amazed if the two marriages (1856 & 1868) weren't the same Richard Donoghue.
The marriage of 1868 involves Mary Monahan and the birth of Marcella in 1869 is, again to Mary Monaghan. My concern was that Mary Monahan & Catherine Monahan were different people.
The births of Catherine's children (John & Richard) tie in with the 1901 census, on which Richard was stated to be 60. Could he have been born in 1840 (or earlier) & married in 1856? What are your views on whether Mary & Catherine Monahan are the same or different people?
[I know I'm discounting the reference to 'dead' on the marriage cert of Richard's daughter Catherine. I'm reading that as Mother is dead, father has moved on]

Re the two marriages i would have to let you make your own mind up on that,that is why i mentioned that the daughter Catherine in 1885 said her parents were decd as i did not want to lead you astray.
It would also be strange to name another daughter Kate 1886 though by a different wife while the other daughter of the same name is still alive.
In my own family my grandmother was Mary Kate and her sister was Mary Anne,how my great grandmother addressed them i often wondered,i often imagined her making breakfast in the morning and calling Mary when it was ready and the two of them would come running.
The name Monahan and it's spelling is not too common in Dublin and the fact that on all the certs i have seen so far it is spelt exactly the same each time suggesting whoever was giving it to the registrar or priest was literate,so my opinion is Mary/Kate are same person.

I think I've figured out how your great grandmother did it. She fed them both at the same time.
However, I haven't figured out Richard Donoghue. 9 Terrace Place features on the 1868 Wedding (of a widower with parents of the same names as the guy who was married in 1856 & whose wife apparently died in 1866), on the 1869 birth of daughter Marcella and on the 7 January 1872 death cert. Whether the person in the two marriages (1856 & 1868) is the same person or not, I believe that the Richard who got married in 1868, died in 1872. I think that my great grandfather Richard on the 1901 census is a different guy, suggesting that Mary Monahan & Catherine Monahan are different people. Or do you have a different take on the Richards?

Well you are tracing back from the Barrett's so the family on 1901 census has to be right including Richard as father in law,whoever filled out the census form his daughter or son in law said he was still married on that date so is he at this stage a widower or is his wife in a workhouse hospital.
Not found any obvious death for Richard or his wife.
We know his wife was alive in 1894 at 12 Tyrone St birth of Richard jnr

Hi There,

A marriage was recorded in St. Paul's RC Church, Arran Quay, Dublin on 29 Oct 1871 between Richard Donaghoe of 12 Church Road, Dublin, son of James of Tummen, Co. Wexford to Catherine Monaghan. I presume that the father's address of Tummen might be a misspelling of Taghmon, Co. Wexford?
