Ypres-Royal Scots Fusiliers

Hello there,

I am wondering if anyone can help me.
I am researching a ancestor (in-law) and his death was recorded on the Menin Gate at Ypres.
He died 1/1/1915, and according to the cwgc his name appears on two plates. I am a little confused why he would appear twice?
Also he served with the Royal Scots Fusiliers, but on another site it states he was a pow since died, and recorded again at Ypres.

Could anyone please shed some light on why his name is recorded twice on the plates, where he may have been held pow and also what role the Scots Fusiliers played at Ypres.

I know this is a bit of a task, and am extremely grateful

Hi Carole,

His name was Levi Reynolds, service no: 6302 1st Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers.

He joined prior to war, appearing on the 1901 census in the barracks at Ayr.

He originated from Northamptonshire.

When CWGC states two panels it merely means all the Royal Scots Fusiliers on the Menin Gate are listed on these panels. Names beginning with R will probably be on Panel 33.
He is listed on the Scottish National War Memorial born Northampton.
He was in 2nd RSF according to his Medal Card and first went to France on 6th October 1914 which is consistant with 2nd RSF who were in 21 Brigade, 7th Division. Between October 1914 and January 1915 the 7th were in:

The 7th were the first troops into Ypres and sufferred heavy casualties in 1st Battle of Ypres. The 2nd RSF had most casulties at the Battle of Nonne Boschen on 11th November 1914.
