Woolnough and Whiting lookup - Suffolk
« on: Monday 07 June 04 13:49 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Can anyone tell me anything about Mary Whiting and or Thomas Woolnough. I think they are my gggg grandparents. I have looked on LDS and got lots of information - they were both born in Alderton Suffolk between 1769 and 1880 - they also got married there I think. I am not sure if this request is too far back for your resources but I would love info
on them - their parents and their offspring if possible.

To all those people who do lookups - you are the best - I spend far too much time researching and if I did lookups too I would be divorced!

Hi

You said that you research on LDS and got information, can you give us some more information to help you as being born between 1769 and 1880 is a fairly big gap (or is 1769 suppose to be 1869??). You must know at least one of their children's name, when and where they were born?
If you found where they were born they probably also had about when they were born and the parents.

You could try http://www.freebmd.org/ for their marriage as you can enter both their names.

Hi Tara

Thanks for taking time to reply and thanks for spotting my deliberate mistake!

I have several possible birth and marriage dates for both Thomas Woolnough and Mary Whiting. 1772, 1775 and 1776 for their births and 1797, 1801, 1800 and 1803 for the marriage.  Very confusing.  All were in Alderton Suffolk.

Their daughter is:

 LUCY WOOLNOUGH     Female
Event(s):   Birth:  10 APR 1804   Alderton, Suffolk, England
Parents:    Father:  THOMAS WOOLNOUGH    Mother:  MARY WHITING

All of this is from LDS.

Thanks again

David

Hi David

Because it is before 1837 and census time in UK it makes it harder. Most records to help you will be parish records

Here are some useful website if you didn't already know about them

http://www.genealogy-links.co.uk/html/sfk.lookup.html
The link to Hugh Wallis’  website you may find useful. It allows you to look at all records for a parish based on a timeframe and a surname using the LDS website. Although Alderton is not on there you may be able to try the surrounding areas.

There is also this website but will probably not be very useful
http://www.suffolklookups.cjb.net/

You could also try here for woolnough
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.woolnough

and

http://genforum.genealogy.com/woolnough/   ->at this site someone has posted history of surname

and here for whiting
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.whiting

Other people looking up same surname, there might be someone there that can help.

Here is a Woolnough website - quite a few Thomas's - could be useful.

sorry i can't help you with any more information

good luck
