Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to find more information about my maternal grandfather. He is Thomas Evans b 1894/1895 don't know where. Married to Gertrude Kelly 26 July 1927 Birkenhead, Cheshire. Died 18 Feb 1954 Birkenhead, Cheshire. His Father was William Evans. I know he was the stage manager at the Argyle Theatre, Birkenhead until it was bombed 1941. He then worked as a clerk at Cammel Laird Shipbuilders. I would dearly love to find out where he was born as he is the only family member that I haven't been able to trace backwards. Any help would be gratefully received  :)

census is probably the way to go and this one in 1901 looks likely:

1901:mouldsworth,cheshire  (near to Birkenhead)
William Evans 48 railway signalman  shropshire, snailbeach

do you know if Thomas had a middle name? do you have the marriage /death certs?

the marriage cert might give the fathers occupation which would help confirm this as the right Thomas - second name Arthur.

Hi Diddymiller,

I have both marriage & death certs. No mention of a middle name on either. His fathers occupation was a coachman (domestic). He also had a brother called George, I don't know how old he was. George had a son also George who was ordained as a catholic priest in June 1943. I keep hitting a brick wall with this and have done for some time.

I might try the local priest and see if there is a way of tracing him, if he is still alive.
