Eliza Williams:Census look up:Crinow
« on: Monday 07 February 11 14:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I was wondering whether any one could find out the whereabouts of Eliza Williams born in Crinow  14th Sept 1843 on the 1841 Census? i think her parents were  William  and Margaret Williams.William was I think born in Cosheston in about 1811 and Margaret born in Kippin (?) in about 1812.
Would be grateful if any one could find any more information about these two like  a marriage for William and Margaret or even their parents.
I have tried free BMD and free reg but to no avail,
Thankyou for your interest and help,
dave56

In the first place you are not going to find, in 1841, any details for someone born in 1843 - 2 years later!

So I assume you meant 1851 census?

Reference HO107/2475/404/5
East House, Crinow

Williams, William  Head  M  40  Labourer  b Casheston
Williams, Margaret  Wife  F  39  b Kiffig, Carmarthenshire
Williams, John  Son  M  14  b Crinow
Williams, Eliza  Daughter  F  9  b Crinow
Williams, Hannah  Daughter  F  6  b Crinow
Williams, Thomas  Son  M  3  b Crinow
Williams, Edwin  Son  M  8 months  b Crinow

Secondly, with the eldest child being born c 1837, the marriage is likely to have taken place before civil registration started in July 1837.

So you need parish registers.

I have been looking at mrge's and the best I can suggest four ancestor at present is ;
William Williams of Ludchurch mrd Margaret Thomas at Kyffig 19 Dec 1833.

I had considered that Casheston was a corruption by the enumorator in the '51 for Cosheston, but since Margaret says in '41 she was born in County which she wasn't she was born in Carmarthenshire, if the '51 is to be believed then Casheston may be a location within Ludchurch parish.

The border never changed in this area Kyffig was always in Carmarthenshire.

Given that none of the children born in Crinow are baptised there, one wonders if they where baptised non-conformist ??

Dear Orielbenfro,
Thank you again for your help. You are a wizard!
Brilliant information. I think they must have been  non conformists. Margaret was always known as Granny Peggi of Crinow by my mother. Interesting that she was born in Kyffig. I had it wrong  as 'Kippin'. So that has cleared that up!
Thank you so much for your knowledge and expertise again.
Much appreciated.
